Registering for Courses

Master of Education in Earth Sciences

Please Note:

To register for a course at Penn State, you must first complete an application to the University. To expedite your enrollment in our M.Ed. courses, we recommend that you first apply as a "Non-Degree Graduate," which will enable you to begin taking courses immediately (versus waiting for a program admissions decision).

Those who wish to apply to the M.Ed. in Earth Sciences degree program can still do so later. Enrolling as a degree student is a separate process, with a separate application fee, from the non-degree application process.

Fifteen credits earned under "non-degree" status can be counted toward the M.Ed. in Earth Sciences degree.

If you choose this option, please contact us by email at earth@e-education.psu.edu or by phone at 814.863.1590 or 814.863.2507 so we can help streamline the procedure for you!

To register for our courses as a non-degree graduate student, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the online application as a "Non-Degree Graduate"
On the 'Campus, Major, Degree, & Semester" screen of the application, select
    • Campus: World Campus
    • Major: Non-Degree Graduate
    • Degree: None
    • Semester: Select the semester when you wish to begin your course

    Note:

If you wish to apply to the program first, see Application Procedures. Once you have been accepted, you can continue with step 2, below.

The language of instruction at Penn State is English. International applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 20 on the speaking section for the internet-based test.  The minimum composite score for the IELTS is 6.5. International applicants are exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement who have received a baccalaureate or a masters degree from a college/university/institution in any of the following: Australia, Belize, British Caribbean and British West Indies, Canada (except Quebec), England, Guyana, Republic of Ireland, Liberia, New Zealand, Scotland, the United States and Wales.
  2. Schedule a course
Once you have been accepted either as a nondegree graduate student or in the M.Ed. in Earth Sciences program, you can register for a course by mailing or faxing a completed Registration Form or by calling the World Campus at 800-252-3592. You will need to pay for your course or provide a tuition assistance form from your employer at the time of registration.

If this will be your first course with Penn State, you will also need to submit a completed Access Account Acceptance Statement with your registration in order to obtain a Penn State Access Account, a unique identification code and password combination that will enable you to connect to Penn State computer systems and online courses. Your Penn State Access Account will be good for one year. If you have any questions or concerns about your Penn State Access Account, please call World Campus Student Services at 800-252-3592 (or send an e-mail to psuwd@psu.edu).
